The Press Institute for Women in the Developing World launched its first annual Digital Camera Drive today.
By September of 2006, the date of the Institute's first scheduled training, Director of Development Aleishall Girard Maxon says they hope to have enough digital cameras donated so they can supply each of their trainees with cameras. "Our mission is not only to educate and empower women in the developing world but also to create a place for unique and powerful storytelling to take place," said Girard Maxon. "These cameras will help ensure that happens."
The Institute will train journalists in reporting and writing skills, as well as camera basics. The Institute believes that by including photographs with their work PIWDW journalists will be able convey a greater depth and reality to their work.
For questions about donating cameras please contact Aleishall Girard Maxon, Director of Development, at agm@piwdw.org and visit www.piwdw.org.
